Abstract:

This paper introduces the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy in coal analysis. Emphasis was put on how to analyze the chemical composition and structure of coal and pyrolysis products with NMR approaches, including solution/solid-state 1H, 13C, 15N, 19F and 31P NMR spectroscopy. Because the NMR approaches require little sample preparation, and can be used to obtain both qualitative and quantitative information, they have becoming widely-used tools in coal industry.

Key words: NMR, coal analysis, pyrolysis
