Abstract: A method for measuring the pseudo temperature coefficient (PTC) of rubidium atomic frequency standards was described. The method is highly sensitive, convenient and fast. Based on analyses of physical mechanisms underlying PTC, a method to reduce PTC was proposed. Experimental results showed that the PTC of the rubidium atomic frequency standards can be reduced by one to two orders of magnitude through proper design of the heater used in the physical package.
